What is BOMA 2024?

The current ANSI/BOMA standard for measuring rentable area in commercial buildings, including updated provisions for outdoor areas and amenity spaces.

Definition

BOMA 2024 (ANSI/BOMA Z65.1-2024) is the current standard for measuring rentable area in commercial buildings, published by the Building Owners and Managers Association. It defines floor measurement methodology, gross-up calculation procedures, and common area allocation rules used across the commercial real estate industry. Updated from the 2017 standard, BOMA 2024 includes new provisions for measuring outdoor tenant areas and amenity spaces that can change a building's total rentable area. Adopting the new standard can affect load factors, pro-rata shares, and ultimately every tenant's CAM obligation — making remeasurement a significant financial event for both landlords and tenants.
